TIDES Evaluates 56 Engineering Camps for Qualcomm® Thinkabit Lab™

1600 middle and high school students will attend week-long engineering camps in the summer of 2021. One-third of the camps with serve all girls. TIDES will explore the impact of the camp program on students' interest in STEM careers, their perception of themselves as inventors and problem-solvers, and their application of engineering skills in creating an invention.

 
 
TIDES Researchers Speak at the 2021 American Educational Research Meeting

Dr. Clark shared findings of her study showing principals can close the learning-achievement gap for Hispanic learners by promoting a positive strengths based approach and a cultural growth mindset. This study fills a gap in the study of leadership practices needed to improve student learning outcomes.

Dr. Nariman presented findings about Covid-19 impact on the third year of Project STEMulate, a program funded by National Science Foundation being conducted at three sites in Hawaii. The study documented the key obstacles faced by both instructors and students as they moved to a virtual realm.

TIDES Collaborates with UC, Davis and UCSD to establish a Southern CA Superintendents’ Collaborative Network

Thirty superintendents in Southern and Northern met virtually throughout 2020-21 to focus on problems of practice. The protocol- guided presentations and ensuing discussions supported all superintendents to gain valuable insights on critical issues facing their districts.

 

As on superintendent said: I appreciated the time to collaborate on a good focusing question: "What questions, if answered, would help you plan for reopening in the fall?" I am using that with cabinet next week.

 

TIDES conducts major study of 248 District Reports on Family Engagement

Family engagement is one of the Local Education Funding Formula state priorities. Districts self-assess their progress and report to the state their actions and areas of need. TIDES analyzed the narratives for the Parent Organization Network in Los Angeles. Key findings were reported to the California Department of Education and at Institute for Educational Leadership national conference on Family Engagement.
